Learn About the Cats of Vaahl

All Calm Waters cats are given a name at birth that they will carry throughout their lives. Some cats receive a second name for gaining a certain rank, or for service to the tribe. These names can be given at any time once a cat has taken their “First Steps”.

Leader

This cat is chosen by the previous leader, or chosen by the tribe as a whole if the leader dies beforepaw. This cat walks with the Ancients, and follows their teachings to lead their tribe in times of peace as well as strife.

Grey’s Call:

Formerly Grey’s Claw, a large dust gray tabby tom, with a solid black paw, and amber eyes. 8 Bloom-cycles old.

-Each leader of the Calm Waters Tribe bears the name ‘Call’ as they are the Ancient’s voice among the tribe, and answer Koa’s Call at all costs.

Healer

This cat has trained since an early age in the arts of healing, mixing herbs, and reading and interpreting signs from the Ancients. They are often a voice of reason to the tribe’s leader in difficult times.

Wolf’s Song

A large white and gray speckled molly with yellow eyes. Long furred and lean underneath, many cats consider her a beauty among the tribe. 8.5 Bloom-cycles old.

-Each healer carries the name ‘Song’ in honor of Water’s Song, the first healer of the Calm Waters Tribe.

Elders

Cats usually past 16 Bloom-cycles old. These cats spent their lives caring for their tribe-mates until old age began to slow their paws. They are shown utmost respect, and now their tribe-mates  care for them in their twilight years. The oldest remembered elder of the Calm Waters Tribe lived to be 26 Bloom-Cycles old!

Foam

A short furred bluish-gray elder, missing his left hind leg from the flank down, and with scars along both flanks from a large dog. 21 Bloom-cycles old

-Although he managed to fend off the dog attack, he was unable to save his mate from the brute, and refused to take a full name due to how many were lost that day, feeling he had not done enough to earn it. He retired shortly after the fight, despite only being about four Bloom-cycles old at the time.

Rabbit’s Foot

A sleek, white-furred elder with a tipped left ear and scar across his muzzle. 18 Bloom-cycles old.

-Earned his name for being one of the fastest field hunters in the tribe.

Rain’s Hop

A long-furred, gray and darker gray patched tom with soft blue eyes He has a few minor scars along his sides and face. 16 Bloom-cycles old.

-Earned his name for the way he would hop through the tree branches in search of forest prey. Retired due to old age and is now a Teller.

STALKERS

These Cats who hunt the forests for land prey. They specialize in rooting prey from the undergrowth, as well as hunting from the branches above.

Fern’s Trail

A young molly with dappled gray-brown fur, and amber eyes. 3.5 Bloom-cycles old.

-Earned her name for being able to follow any trail with ease, even if they were several days old.

Night’s Trail

A long-furred tom with solid black fur and sharp yellow eyes. He is covered in small scars along his paws and muzzle from the forest. Fern’s Trail’s father. 10 Bloom-cycles old.

-Earned his name similar to his daughter. He had been the best stalker in the tribe until she surpassed him as a ‘first step’.

Cloud’s Fall

A large, robust and long-furred white and gray patched tom with a torn ear and scars along the side of his scruff. 10 Bloom-cycles

-Earned his name for how he would drop down onto his prey from the branches above. If there’s a squished squirrel on the prey-stones, Cloud’s Fall caught it!

Night

A small, short-furred, solid black tom with green eyes who left the colony to join the tribe after Gull’s Wing’s death. 6 Bloom-cycles

-He has yet to earn his true name.

Kelp’s Claw

A one-eyed brown tom with a torn ear and scars along his flanks as well as claw marks across his right eye. 8 Bloom-cycles old.

-Earned his name fighting off a stray dog in the forest. The tribe’s youngest Teller.

FISHERS

Cats who hunt the Calm Waters for fish and sea creatures. These cats risk their tails every time they step into the shallows, and work together to take down prey 2-3 times their size!

Mist’s Sight

A small and sleek, black-furred tom with mist-gray eyes. He has a chipped ear, and multiple minor scars along his shoulders. 10 Bloom-cycles old.

-Earned his name by his exceptional sight under water.

Shark’s Fang

A heavily scarred, long-furred, slate gray tom with green eyes. A lifetime of battling the waves outside the Calms has caused him to look much older than his brother. 8 Bloom-Cycles old.

-Earned his name by breaking a fang on the tail of a young shark that got trapped in the Calm Waters.

Long’s Heart

A heavily scarred, short-furred, light gray tabby with blue eyes. 8 Bloom-cycles old.

-Earned his name for his refusal to end another cat’s life despite his ferocity in battle, and showing mercy akin to the mother lynx’s herself.

Wind’s Leap

A sleek, medium-furred white and gray patched fae with blue eyes who washed up along the Calm Water’s shores as a kit. 1.5 Bloom-cycles old.

-Earns her name for how quickly she is willing to jump to her adopted tribe’s aid.

Oak’s Sight

A short-furred, red and brown tabby tom with blue eyes, and light brown marks under his eyes. 3 Bloom-cycles old.

-Earned his name for the ability to spot swimming prey in even the murkiest waters, as well as success hunting prey in the long grasses of the field.

Pine’s Leap

A short furred, red and brownish gray tabby tom with blue eyes like his brother. 3 Bloom-cycles old.

-Earned his name for being the first to leap off of Outlook Boulder after prey, creating a new way of hunting larger prey for the tribe. At three Bloom Cycles old, he is revered by his tribe-mates, as his technique gave the tribe the ability to catch entire feasts in a single day’s hunt.

Magpie’S call

A black, white and gray fae with mismatched blue and green eyes. She returned to the Calm Waters with Grey’s Call during the great sickness, when Koa led him to a far off tribe to find a cure. 6 Bloom-cycles old.

She chose to follow Koa’s call, and took her first steps down the path he had set for her without hesitation, and joined the Calm Waters Tribe as Magpie’s Call, helping Grey’s Call bring the cure for the great sickness back to the tribe.

Kelp’s Nose

A brown, curly furred molly with blue eyes, a torn ear and kinked tail tip. 14 Bloom-cycles old.

-Earned her name for being able to scent out small water creatures hiding in sands.

Storm’s Claw

A sleek-furred, white and black fluffy tom with several scars along both sides. The oldest fisher in the tribe, soon to retire. 16 Bloom-cycles old.

-Earned his name for ferocity in defending the tribe against the outsiders.

Swift

A soft pelted gray tom with strange speckled orange eyes. 2 Bloom-cycles old.

-Has yet to earn his name.

Pike’s Sight

A soft, sleek-furred and lithe brown molly with almost black eyes. A few facial scars, and a kinked tail. 10 Bloom-cycles old.

-Earned her name for her ability to keep track of small fish as the dart through the water, and determine which way they will scatter.

Den-Mothers

These cats are expecting or currently caring for kits.

Heron

A soft brown molly with a scar down her right side. She joined the tribe with her sister, Wave at 5 Bloom-Cycles. 7 Bloom-cycles old.
-Mother to Gull, Snake, and Wake.

-Has yet to earn a true name.

Milks’ Heart

A long, cream furred molly with soft blue eyes. Sister to Wolf’s Song. 8.5 Bloom-cycles old.
-Mother to Cream, Dust, and Moon.

-Earned her name during the great sickness as she helped her sister with those who fell ill, even after coming down with the illness itself.

Wave

A reddish-brown furred molly with soft cold blue eyes despite her gentle nature. She came from the colony, and has spent every day since she joined the tribe trying to earn her true name. 6 Bloom-cycles old.

-Expecting mother.

Kits

Cats under seven moon cycles (seven months) old, and unable to leave the Grounds.

Cream

A cream, long-furred fae with amber eyes, the spitting image of her mother.

Dust

A brownish-gray tom with mid-length fur who resembles his father, but with darker markings and the same amber eyes.

Moon

A short furred cream tom with amber eyes.

Gull

A white and light gray tabby fae with black ear-tips and sea-foam eyes.

Snake

A dappled brown tom with green eyes.

Wake

A mostly white tom with brown paws and tail tip and green eyes.

Ancestors

Cats who have passed on to the home of the Ancients, the Eternal Realm, known to the Calm Waters Tribe as the Eternal Hunting Grounds.

Water’s Song

A long-furred gray tabby molly with pine green eyes. 8 Bloom-cycles old at her death.

-Earned her name for the song she sang to the Ancients that convinced Suni to help the tribe, forming their home by the calm waters.

Night’s Claw

The first leader at the Calm Waters. A sleek furred solid black tom with cold blue eyes. 6.5 Bloom-cycles old at his death.

-Earned his name for his ferocity in battle. The name ‘Call’ was stripped from him at death for his crimes against his tribe, and for breaking Kaiyu’s Call.

Juniper’s Call

The previous leader of the tribe, Grey’s Call’s father, and Long’s Heart’s guide. A blue-gray tom with a bushy tail, and darker gray tabby marbling. much like a juniper frond. 11 Bloom-cycles old at his death.

-Carried the name all leaders have carried since Night’s Claw fell.

Cloud’s Nose

A white and gray patched tom with gray tipped ears, paws, and tail. 22 Bloom-Cycles old at his death.

-Earned his name for strong sense of smell and ease of following scent trails.

Colony Cats

These are cats who refused the Ancient’s calls, choosing to follow the Lost-pelts instead.

Crow

An unusually large tom for a colony cat. He is black, with even darker markings in his fur, and cold, piercing yellow eyes. 6 Bloom-cycles old.

Cid

A sleek black fae with blue eyes. 3 Bloom-cycles old.

Streak

A large black tom with a streak of white going down his spine. 5.5 Bloom-cycles old.

Clay

A large brown tabby tom with gray-green eyes. Brother to Boulder. 5 Bloom-cycles old.

Boulder

A built mud-brown tom with a torn ear and gray-green eyes. Brother to Clay. 5 Bloom-cycles old.

Rouger

A young gray tabby with golden eyes. 14 Moon-cycles old.
